RELIGION AND SHROOMS

Since early cave paintings depicted a shamanistic figure dancing among halo-enshrouded mushrooms, they have played an important role in human spirtuality. The Aztecs knew them and called them "Food of the Gods"; the Egyptians used them, as did the ancient peoples of Scandanavia. Throughout human history, psychedelic mushrooms have been hailed as spiritually releasing, actually magic, spirits in their own right, Gods. Some have postulated that they even formed an integral part of our evolution into civilized creatures. Today, cultures all over the world still use them for purposes ranging from recreation to worship. It is one of our oldest spiritual companions.
